[ARCHIVED] Residents urged to get ready, plan ahead during National Preparedness Month

Aug. 31, 2016 - September is National Preparedness Month, and residents are being reminded that we all must take action and prepare for the different emergencies - from hurricanes to tornadoes, wildfires or flooding - that could affect us.

The overall theme for the month, highlighted by the Department of Homeland Security's website,, is "Don't Wait. Communicate. Make Your Emergency Plans Today." Weekly themes include "Preparing Family & Friends, Preparing Through Service, and Individual Preparedness."

A number of tips and suggestions can be found on the Homeland Security website, They include public service announcements, videos and more. The message: anyone aged 2-102 should be ready for disasters. Topics include:
