[ARCHIVED] Change Management Notice: Planned Internet Maintenance window/outage

Internet Maintenance

Description:  Maintenance outage for City wide internet service.  This work is required in order to increase our internet speed.  Our existing equipment is not capable of a higher speed and we are currently at times utilizing 95 to 98% of our available bandwidth.     

When:  Tuesday, July 26, 2016  11 pm to midnight

Who is Affected?   All City network users to include outbound internet access as well as remote users accessing the City network.  Remote users will not be able to connect to the network during the maintenance hour.  Internal users will not have access to the internet during the maintenance hour.  Email access will continue to be available for users outside the City network during the scheduled outage.    The City webpage will continue to be available during the maintenance window.    

Servers and applications that may be affected include:

  • Police Mobile Data units
  • Kronos Web
  • Verizon Private Data Network

What will occur:  IT is replacing an important component of our network (the firewall) Tuesday evening, July 26, 2016, beginning shortly after 11:00 p.m.  We expect all work to be completed by midnight and all network access to be returned to normal status at that time.  

Special instructions:  No network access will be available during the one hour maintenance window (11 pm to midnight).  Remote workers using home PC’s, smartphones, tablets, etc., using Microsoft O365 will continue to have full access to Email.   Any customers with network issues after midnight on July 26th,  should call 311 the following morning and provide their name, contact information, and the specific problem they are having.   If the issue is urgent before 311 is available the following morning, you may email Bill Agee at bagee@hampton.gov or Steve Gillikin at sgillikin@hampton.gov.
