[ARCHIVED] Mosquito spraying update: Crews to target Harris Creek/Beach Road area June 21

June 21, 2016 - City crews will be conducting truck-mounted, ultra-low volume spraying for mosquitoes this week, weather permitting in the Harris Creek and Beach Road area.

Spraying is done around dusk to minimize impact on beneficial insects. Citizens can help reduce the mosquito population by dumping containers of standing water or adding bio-control larvicides to standing water. Asian tiger mosquitoes are most active during the day and stay close to their breeding grounds.

A mosquito spray hotline is available at 757-727-8415, and residents can call 311 (727-8311 from a cell phone) to request that an area be sprayed. The truck routes will be identified on the city website at www.hampton.gov/mosquito or by calling the mosquito control hotline.

Public Works' Environmental Services crews monitor the mosquito population and test for diseases they may carry.

Elizabeth Lakes, Riverdale - June 15
Todd's Lane, Briarfield Road - June 14
Phoebus, Buckroe - June 9
Gosnold's Hope Park, Michaels Woods, Northampton - June 8
Colonial Acres, Willow Oaks, King Street - June 7
Harris Creek, Beach Road, Oxbridge - June 6
