[ARCHIVED] All after-school and evening activities and athletics have been cancelled for today

Feb. 24, 2016 - Due to the threat of inclement weather, all after-school and evening activities and athletics have been cancelled for today, Feb. 24. School-age Programming (SAP) (after-school care) will remain open two hours after school dismissal.

The National Weather Service has issued a tornado watch for this area from now until 9 p.m. tonight. Hampton City Schools have cancelled all after-school activities and athletics as severe weather, including rain and high winds, moves into the area.

A tornado watch means that tornadoes are possible in and near the watch area. Residents are encouraged by the city's Emergency Management Office to review and discuss emergency plans and to check your supplies and safe room. Be ready to act quickly if a warning is issued or you suspect a tornado is approaching.

Emergency Management will continue to monitor the storms this afternoon and evening and provide updates as warranted.
