[ARCHIVED] Flood advisory issued until 5:30 p.m. Wednesday

Dec. 30, 2015 - The National Weather Service in Wakefield has issued a flood advisory for Hampton until 5:30 p.m.

Hampton's Emergency Management Office said radar showed an area of rain and thunderstorms across southeast Virginia, with the potential to cause minor flooding in some areas of the city. The weather service said Hampton could see 1-2 inches of rain until about 5:30 p.m., when it should start to slow down. Rain is expected to stop by 11 p.m. today.

A flood advisory means river or stream flows are elevated or water can begin ponding in urban areas. Residents are urged to avoid traveling across flooded roads because it only takes a few inches of swiftly flowing water to carry vehicles away.

Emergency Management will continue to monitor the situation.
