[ARCHIVED] Heat advisory issued for Hampton until 8 p.m.

July 20, 2015 - The National Weather Service in Wakefield has issued a heat advisory for Hampton until 8 p.m. tonight. At 2 p.m. the temperature was about 90 degrees.

The Weather Service said Hampton will experience a high heat index - what it actually feels like with the humidity - of 102 degrees.

The city’s libraries and community centers are open for residents and visitors to get out of the heat. Hampton's Emergency Management Office reminds us that there is water available at all centers and libraries. The city is also prepared to open a dedicated cooling site if necessary.

The H.E.L.P. Day Center at 329 Buckroe Ave. is open today from 9 a.m.- 3 p.m. for those seeking respite from the heat, and HELP’s mobile unit is prepared to go downtown this evening to pass out water if necessary.

The Emergency Management Office will continue to monitor the weather and provide updates as needed.
