Hampton, Va. - “A nation reveals itself not only by the men it produces, but also by the men it honors, the men it remembers.” These words spoken by President John F. Kennedy take on additional significance each Memorial Day. On May 25, 2015, the Hampton Roads community will gather for a Memorial Day ceremony, to honor the thousands of men and women who sacrificed their lives in this nation’s defense. The one hour observance is open to the public and will take place rain or shine.

The ceremony begins at 10 a.m. on the grounds of the Hampton National Cemetery located adjacent to Hampton University, at the intersection of Cemetery Road and Marshall Avenue. A joint military color guard and rifle team from Fort Eustis will participate in the ceremony, along with the U.S. Fleet Forces Band, from Norfolk.

Representatives from each branch of the armed service will place wreaths at the headstones of service members laid to rest at the cemetery.
