Pamunkey Indian Tribe: Cultural Resource Management - Virtual Talk

Join Shaleigh Howells, Cultural Resource Director for the Pamunkey Indian Tribe and Museum Director of the Pamunkey Indian Museum & Cultural Center, as she discusses cultural resource management in the Tribal sector. She will share a brief history of the Pamunkey Indian Tribe, an overview of Tribal government structure and a deep dive into the Cultural Resource Department and Tribal museum. She will also discuss issues that Tribal communities are faced with today and ways to support Indigenous communities.

Shaleigh Howells works as a non-Native representative of and advocate for the Pamunkey Indian Tribe. She serves as the Tribe’s Cultural Resource Director and Museum Director of the Pamunkey Indian Museum & Cultural Center. Howells is a graduate of Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts (BA, History) and Harvard University (ALM, Museum Studies). Originally from Western Massachusetts, she has lived in Central Virginia for over a decade. Her areas of expertise include collections management, museum registration, deaccession, repatriation, cultural resource management and community engagement.
