Book discussion: 'Citizen: An American Lyric'

Wednesday, March 20, 2019

Join a community book discussion about "Citizen: An American Lyric" by Claudia Rankine. This powerful written work covers topics such as race and identity through vignettes, short stories, essays, poetry, and artwork. Up to 25 residents can register and pick up a free copy of "Citizen" at the resource center on the second floor of the main library, 4207 Victoria Blvd. Call 311, or 757-727-8311, to register to attend. Ages 13 and up are welcome. The Hampton Library and Citizens' Unity Commission want residents to come together for a series of book discussions that will end with a "reading block party" on March 23. It's all part of One City One Book, a unique reading program designed to promote literacy and build a sense of community. The program is part of The BIG READ, an initiative of the National Endowment for the Arts and Arts Midwest. For more information, call 727-1312.
