City Manager's Message June 2: Surprise Fun!

Posted on June 3, 2022 at 12:11 PM by Dacia Walker

I hope everyone had a great Memorial Day weekend – it is so hard to believe that it is June already! With the start of summer, the Peninsula Pilots have begun their season. I am pleased to announce that we have single-game tickets available for city employees on a first-come, first available basis – and they will be good for any regular-season home game! To ensure that as many people as possible can get tickets, we are limiting them to 4 per employee. To claim your tickets, please contact Carolyn Weaver-Dickerson in my office (cweaver@hampton.gov or 727-6392). We hope you enjoy this special benefit with family and friends.

Also, and maybe even more excitingly, I am pleased to announce our new “Food Truck Fridays” program. As many of you know, we sent out a poll several months ago asking for your input on various wellness initiatives. One of the many things employees indicated they would like to see is food trucks at City Hall. This was one of the easier ideas to quickly implement so our executive management team pitched in to make it a reality. Thanks to the hard work of many people, but especially our Parks, Recreation and Leisure and Legal teams, we will begin offering access to food trucks starting tomorrow, Friday, June 3rd.

We will have a food truck in Honor Park (located between City Hall and the Police Plaza) every other Friday on paydays from 11 am - 3 pm. We hope to be able to build the program into an every Friday occurrence over time, based on how well this service is received and utilized. Please let us know what you think!

This week “Munchies ‘n Such” will sell Taco Eggrolls, Bacon Cheeseburgers, Nacho Fries, Chicken Philly Fries, Funnel Cakes, and more, along with “Kona Ice,” selling shaved ice with over 10 flavor choices like “Lemon-Lime-A-Licious,” “Pina Colada,” and “Groovy Grape.”  We hope you will take advantage of this convenience over lunchtime.

I hope these offerings will offer some fun for all of us this summer!

Mary
