City Manager's Message: Masks will be given to employees

Posted on October 29, 2020 at 10:35 AM by Don Mann

Many of you have asked about the face masks and clothing that feature some of the new branding the city has done. I am pleased to share that we have purchased a face mask for all full-time and regular scheduled part-time employees.

This is a good time for us to get each of you a new cloth mask as the coronavirus will remain present in our society as we enter flu season. We want everyone to stay safe at work, and wearing a mask is one of the best ways to do that. With these new masks, we are pleased to give you another safety tool, but also one that allows you a way to reflect the pride you feel in your work and in your city.

These masks feature icons that spell out Hampton on them:

Black Hampton mask wide

  • The "H" features the Buckroe pier
  • The "A" represents the Hampton One Sail.
  • The "M" features the Coliseum.
  • The "P" represents the Phoebus Clock Tower with the military time of 16:10, the year our city was founded.
  • The "T" can be either a vertical military jet or a shining star, and a shoutout to our tag line “from the sea to the stars.”
  • The "O" represents the crab, a longstanding icon for Hampton and a shoutout to the sea part of our tag line.
  • The "N reflects our proud NASA Langley heritage, Hampton being the city at which the nation’s first astronauts trained.
Department directors will get details about how to pick up masks for their employees.

I hope you enjoy your new Hampton masks. While all employees will get a mask for free, others who wish to show their pride — either by wearing a fun mask or shirt — will need to purchase them via our online store that supports the Hampton History Museum.

Have a great week!

— Mary
