City Weekly Coronavirus Update 2

Posted on March 12, 2020 at 5:51 PM by Don Mann

As the media continues to cover coronavirus (COVID-19) cases in pockets across the nation, the city has continued its planning efforts both internally and with external partners, conducting multiple informational and planning sessions this past week. We continue to encourage all employees to take the following protective actions to help prevent the spread of this new virus as well as influenza and other diseases:
  • Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, especially after going to the bathroom; before eating; and after blowing your nose, coughing, or sneezing.
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands.
  • Stay home when you are sick.
  • Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throw the tissue in the trash and wash your hands.
As our Task Group continues to work on preparedness efforts we will continue to keep you up to date with major changes. We will continue to work together to address the concerns that the coronavirus poses to our city and our city staff.  In summary, I would like to stress that our current risk remains very low, which means that this is the best time for us to plan and prepare, both as an organization, and as individuals.

We have created a single point for information for employees and citizens with the latest information and links:

https://hampton.gov/coronavirus

Also, this is a good time to remind you that you can sign up for personal email and/or text alerts for information from the City by going to  https://hampton.gov/notifyme and selecting the news items on which you wish to be notified. This is a good way to make sure you get alerts to city openings/delays/etc. for all weather events as well.

I hope you all have a wonderful weekend!

- Mary
