Bonus Reminder and Invitation to State of the City Presentation

Posted on December 6, 2019 at 3:33 PM by Don Mann

Today all qualified individuals received the annual citizen satisfaction survey bonus in their accounts. This bonus is an additional thank you for helping to achieve such high marks in our biennial survey.

Speaking of those high marks, I want to invite each of you to Hampton City Hall on Monday, Dec. 16, for five opportunities to watch a special video presentation of last month’s State of the City address. This is covered work time, and we will even throw in some popcorn for a good old fashioned Movie Day kind-of feel!

Last month, Mayor Donnie Tuck took the stage at the Hampton Roads Convention Center to highlight the exciting changes and continuing improvements that are taking place in our city, thanks in large part to the dedication and hard work of Hampton employees.

The theme was “Waves of Change,” and the mayor talked about everything from the growing profile of Phoebus, the many housing projects already under construction or in the planning stages in Hampton, the drop in serious crime, and a dramatic growth in tourists from 2010 to 2018.

When you come to City Council Chambers on Monday, Dec. 16, you’ll also get to see the video of Hampton City Schools Superintendent Jeffery Smith and City Manager Mary Bunting explaining how Hampton City Schools are transforming the high school experience through the Academies of Hampton as well as having achieved 100% accreditation, without conditions, for the first time in history!

And you can watch the City Council members, Hampton School Board members and others (including me) show they’re game for anything that helps the city. That includes wearing some glittery and sometimes comical outfits that people wore in the ’60s, ’70s, ’80s and ’90s. That part of the presentation is sure to leave you smiling!

This special showing of the State of the City address will be available to employees at five different times on Dec. 16, starting at 10 a.m. and ending at 3 p.m. Each presentation will last about an hour. Seating is limited, so don’t wait to go online and sign up for the time you’d like to see the video.

We think it is important that city employees know more about what is going on across the City, and this is a great chance to help you learn. When the showing is over, you will get a small surprise for taking the time to learn more about our waves of change!

I hope many of you will choose to join us, but please remember to coordinate your interest with your supervisor and/or department head so we do not leave any work unit unattended.

As always, please know that your hard work, dedication and professionalism are valued and appreciated! I hope you have a wonderful weekend!

- Mary
