[ARCHIVED] 9-24-18: New Department Heads

The original item was published from September 25, 2018 4:11 PM to September 26, 2018 11:29 AM

A few weeks ago, I provided an update on the Council's hiring of Cheran Ivery as our new City Attorney as well as our timetable for filling other department head vacancies. I promised to update you all as other executive management jobs were filled. Today, I have the pleasure of announcing two additional decisions.

First, I am pleased to announce that we have hired Chuck Rigney to be our new Economic Development Director. Chuck has served in Norfolk for many years both as Director and Assistant Director of Development. He has been instrumental in major deals including but not limited to ADP, IKEA and the Movement Mortgage headquarters decisions. He is highly regarded throughout the region and state with deep working relationships with many of the developers and investors we are trying to attract to Hampton. He was the unanimous choice of the interview team. We are very excited to welcome him to the Hampton team! Chuck will begin work on Monday, October 8th. I want to thank Steven Lynch for doing such a great job as Interim Director. With Steven in that role, we have continued our momentum and have not missed a beat! Steven will continue in this role until Chuck begins.

Next, I am pleased to announce that Dave McCauley has agreed to become our permanent Parks & Recreation Director. Dave is no stranger to many of you as he has led our 311 Customer Call and Contact Center for several years. Earlier this year, Dave agreed to step into an interim role on Parks & Recreation for us and he has done such wonderful things since that time. I have heard many accolades from the staff and public alike about his performance, so I was glad to be able to offer the permanent role to him effective today. I have no doubt that Dave will support the P&R team in their provision of quality leisure services to our residents and help take that department to an even higher level in the future.

Please join me in congratulating Chuck and Dave on their new roles on our team!
