4-2-17: Parking Changes at the Ruppert Sargent Building

Posted on April 2, 2018 at 9:22 AM by Fred Gaskins

Changes are being made to the parking arrangements at the Ruppert Sargent Building this week. We have consistently had an issue with employee and city vehicles parking for extended periods in the customer parking lot and in spaces around the building intended for customers. Despite requests for employees to not use this parking which is marked for one hour customer use, the behavior has persisted. In addition to the lack of parking, there is also  a challenge of having customers walk past the service entrance and the dumpster, making it difficult for them to find the public entrance.
Accordingly, we are changing the parking arrangement to move the customer parking from the lot where it has been to the city lot at the corner of Queen and Franklin. Thirty spaces will be designated one-hour customer parking there. The rows which will be reserved for customer parking are the non-handicap spaces adjacent to Franklin Street, then the two rows of twelve spaces each in the next row over. The current customer parking lot will be made available to employees. The net change in spaces actually provides slightly more parking for employees, but realigns the spaces to put customers closer to the entrance.

Public Works will be making the changes this week, since many employees may be out with children over the Spring Break. Signage will depict what I have outlined. We believe this realignment will serve both our customers and employees well, but we need our employees to be respectful of the reserved customer spaces. Therefore, please note, that after this week of change, parking tickets may and will be issued for employees using customer parking. I once again strongly urge you to respect the need for our customers to have convenient parking to them, and resist the temptation to use vacant customer spaces for your own use.

If you have any questions about the change, please feel free to let me know. Otherwise, I thank you in advance for your support during this realignment of parking.

Have a great week!
