City Manager's Message 1-17-18: Winter Weather Update

Posted on January 17, 2018 at 5:56 AM by Dacia Scott

As you are aware, Hampton and the region are expected to get snowfall beginning late this morning/early afternoon.  Expected accumulations are in the 2 inches range. As a result, Hampton City Schools will be closed today. However, at this point, we do not see the need to close down city operations. While inconvenient, snowfall in the 2 inches range should not impede operations nor impact employee/resident safety. Therefore, City Hall will open on schedule today. Liberal leave - when properly scheduled with supervisors/department heads - is authorized for those who have unanticipated child care issues and/or are concerned about personal commutes on roads. Liberal leave may be used for the entire day or part of it, as needed and coordinated.

As a reminder, when making these decisions, our overriding goal is safety. Therefore, please know that we will continue to monitor conditions throughout the day. If conditions change and warrant a different decision such as early closure, we will alert you via all normal channels.

Mary

P.S. The 1610 luncheon today will continue on schedule today. We look forward to honoring our long serving employees!
