City Manager's Message 1-3-18: Status of Operations Thursday, Jan. 4, 2018

Posted on January 3, 2018 at 4:23 PM by Dacia Walker

All,

As you may have seen, the snow projections for Hampton and the surrounding region have significantly worsened over the day. Hampton is now under a Blizzard warning and our projected snowfall is at 11-12 inches. The timing for the snowfall’s arrival in our area is 6-9 p.m. tonight. We are also now projected to have much stronger winds. Together, these conditions are likely to make roads impassable.

I have decided to go ahead and close City operations tomorrow to all but emergency essential personnel. This is a rare decision, as we prefer to remain open, but it is the right one given the extraordinary impact of this event. If you have any questions as to whether you are considered emergency essential personnel, please remember to confirm your status with your supervisor and/or department head. By making this decision now, my hope is that you can go home knowing your plans for the day. Please use this opportunity to stay home, off the streets unless you must venture out and warm. Please keep our emergency essential personnel in your thoughts as they take care of our community in difficult circumstances.

Decisions about operations on Friday will be made late tomorrow afternoon/early evening after the public safety and public works teams have been able to make an updated assessment of roads conditions. Any decision will be sent out via email as well as 311, social media and news alerts. You may also check the City’s website (www.hampton.gov) for updates.

Take care!

Mary
