City Manager's Message 6-23-17

Posted on June 23, 2017 at 3:49 PM by Dacia Scott

Happy New Year!! Happy FY18 New Year, that is. The start of a new year, calendar or otherwise, is an opportunity to reflect on the past and look ahead to the future. As I reflect on FY17, I believe Team Hampton has accomplished many great things despite any challenge that has come our way. I know our City Council agrees!

As previously noted, at Budget adoption time, we have provided all permanent-full time (PFT) employees whose salaries have not exceeded the maximum for their range and were hired on or before March 31, 2017  a 2% general wage increase. This increase will be reflected in the July 7th paycheck that is just around the corner. PFT employees who are approaching the maximum for their range may not exceed the maximum of their salary range.

Additionally, in December, those eligible employees will receive a cash bonus based on Citizen Satisfaction Survey results. You will hear more from me about that as we get closer.

Today, though, I do have a special surprise. Because of our collective appreciation for the great FY 2017 performance, the Council and I are pleased to offer Monday, July 3rd as a bonus administrative day to city employees. Most city offices will be closed on this day, enabling a four-day weekend for most.

For those employees who do have to work - such scheduled Police, Fire, 911, Solid Waste and Steam Plant employees - we thank you in advance for serving our citizens on days most of the team gets off. Please know that you, too, will get a bonus day (time off with pay) at a later date within the new fiscal year. The scheduling of this time off will be done in accordance with city policies.

On behalf of City Council and the entire city management executive team, thank you again for your unwavering commitment to the citizens of Hampton and I look forward to FY18!

Mary
