CM Message 1-8-17: Updated Winter Weather/Closure for Non-Emergency Personnel Monday, Jan. 9

Posted on January 8, 2017 at 5:26 PM by Robin Mccormick

I hope everyone has had a safe and warm couple of days as we have dealt with our first blizzard in a long while. Many thanks go to our outstanding Public Works crews for their diligence in clearing the main roads. They have been assisted in their efforts by our Police personnel who have helped them to more efficiently and safely clear the roads. All of our public safety personnel - from those in our 911 center to our first responders - have similarly done an outstanding job in staying safe while helping those in need.

Although our Public Works crews have done great work, our City received between 8-14 inches of snow, depending on location. Side streets, which are not cleared by the City, remain compacted and slick due to the extremely low temperatures. Even our main roads are subject to additional freezing with expected temperatures in the teens and below tonight.

Because our employee safety is our top priority, I have decided to close City operations tomorrow to all but emergency essential personnel. This is a rare decision, as we prefer to remain open, but it is the right one given the extraordinary impact of this event. I do expect to open on Tuesday, but will offer liberal leave for those of you who may still want or need it. If you have any questions as to your personnel status, please coordinate with your immediate supervisor and/or department in accordance with your departmental policies.

Please remember to get all your official information from our website or 311. We will provide and post all updated information to those sites as soon as decisions are made.

Thanks again to all who have been working so hard for our community!

Mary
