Customer Service Week/Employee Appreciation Week

Posted on September 28, 2016 at 10:48 AM by Mary Bunting

Sept. 28, 2016 - There are many things that make Hampton a special city, and one of those is the excellent customer service that you all provide to our citizens. I believe those day-to-day interactions shape people's view of our city. As you know from the results of our biennial surveys, residents have very high satisfaction with our staff and how they do their jobs.

Nonetheless, it’s helpful to take the national Customer Service Week to re-focus and re-dedicate ourselves to continuing excellence in serving our customers. And I want to also take time to recognize, celebrate and thank you for all you do.

For Customer Service Week, which begins Oct. 3, Human Resources will offer two Lunch and Learn workshops (Monday and Thursday at noon) related to this topic. Also, the Conventions and Visitors Bureau will offer a city tour designed to better acquaint some of our staff with the rich history and attractions that Hampton offers. That will take place Tuesday morning.

There are limited seats for these events, and you need to get your supervisor’s approval to register. More information will be forthcoming.

I would personally like to invite you to an Employee Appreciation Lunch. We haven’t been able to do this annually, but we have a unique opportunity this year. It will be held Thursday, Oct. 20, from noon to 2 p.m. at Bluebird Gap Farm. Because Parks will be setting up for a big weekend fall festival, we are able to extend the event and offer employees lunch and a sampling of some of the fun games and activities that will be a part of the weekend festival. It’s not technically during Customer Service Week, but please think of this as a way I and my staff can thank you for the excellent work you do every day for our customers.

As you know, I really think of our staff as a family. What better way to celebrate that than with a fun event to bring us together? I know some work schedules will keep everyone from attending, but I hope to see as many of you as possible. Consider this a “save the date,” and watch your email and hampton.gov/employees or contact 311 at 757-727-8311 for more details.

Thanks for all you do,

 Mary
