[ARCHIVED] Manager's Message 5/19/16: Employee Information Sessions on Compression Approach

The original item was published from June 7, 2016 10:07 AM to June 7, 2016 4:06 PM

Last week I shared information about the details of our planned compression adjustments and indicated that we would offer employee information sessions in the next several weeks for those of you who want to learn more in an "in-person" format.  Below you will see the dates, times and locations of the sessions we are offering.

May 25, 8:30am to 10:30am: General Workforce Session (Council Chambers)

May 26, 2pm to 4pm: Public Safety Sworn Personnel Session (Police Training Room)

May 31, 8:30am to 10:30am:  General Workforce Session (Library, Room A/B)

June 2, 8:30am to 10:30am: General Workforce Session (Council Chambers)

June 9, 1-3pm: Public Safety Sworn Personnel Session (Police Training Room)

While any employee is welcome to attend any session, I ask that you please contact Donna Hodges at 727-6392 or dlhodges@hampton.gov to pre-register so that we can ensure we do not exceed capacity at these information briefings. Also, please note that we have two sessions that are specifically dedicated to addressing sworn public safety personnel questions. While we will cover the general workforce and public safety sworn position changes at both meetings, the public safety sessions will enable us to deal more specifically with the unique issues that occurred with inverted rank relationships in the Police and Fire departments exclusively.

As a reminder, the compression adjustments are only one part of the FY 2017 compensation package. Other components include:

- 2% general wage adjustment (follows compression adjustments which will be made first)

- Citizen Satisfaction Bonus in December, 2016

- NO increase in health insurance premiums (City will pick up 100% of this year's premium increase to protect employee take home pay)

- Continuation of the quarterly personal days

- Continuation of free access to community centers for employee health/fitness

In total, this compensation package represents more than a $4.5 million investment in our workforce. I am pleased that our revenues allowed for this substantial step forward in compensation for our dedicated and talented workforce.
