Manager's Message: Thank you for your hard work!

Earlier today, Council received a briefing on the FY 2015 year end results. As part of this presentation, it was noted that departments collectively saved in excess of $2.3 million over what was budgeted. These funds are not recurring savings. Largely, the savings came from salary savings while positions were vacant. Once those positions are filled, the savings no longer exist. Thus, the savings should only be used for one-time expenses.
 
I am pleased to share that, based on a recommendation we made, Council agreed to spend nearly 40% of these unexpected, one-time savings on our workforce since collectively you helped to create this savings. We understand that, when positions are vacant and generating these savings, it means others in the departments need to step up and work a little harder. We appreciate this, and thought it only proper that you received a collective achievement award for your efforts. This achievement award will be based on using the citizen satisfaction survey results. Those of you who have worked for the organization for many years will recall a time when the citizen satisfaction survey resulted in a cash award. The award Council agreed to fund today will mirror that former award process. 
 
The base amount of the achievement award is $250 for full-time employees and $125 for part-time/WAE employees who work an average of at least 8 hours per week. Since the award is funded with departmental savings from FY 2015, employees must have been employed on or before June 30, 2015 and in a pay status on December 11, 2015 to be eligible. Since the citizen satisfaction survey results showed that 91.2% of residents were satisfied or more than satisfied with the performance of city employees, we will apply this percentage to the base amount. Thus, the actual awards will be $228 for full time employees ($250*0.912=$228) and $114 ($125*0.912=$114) for eligible part-time/WAE employees. Council has generously agreed to gross up the amount so that eligible employees will receive the full achievement award after subtracting required taxes. The award will be paid out on December 18, 2015.
 
I want to again thank you for your hard work, dedication and excellent customer service. These traits continue to impress our community, and have earned you this achievement award. I know we have been through many tough times together. This achievement award is one of the many ways your Council and City leadership team is thanking you for your commitment to our great City during those tough times.
