[ARCHIVED] Manager's Message: Holiday Schedule & Bonus Time Off

The original item was published from November 5, 2015 3:04 PM to November 5, 2015 3:04 PM

It is hard to believe it’s November already and that the holiday season is right around the corner. Each year at this time, we announce the results of the biennial citizen satisfaction survey and the resulting time off bonus for the holidays.

As you are hopefully aware, every two years we ask the community – through a random, scientific survey – to rate city service delivery and tell us what they think about the performance of city employees. The results are tied to an employee time-off bonus program. Under the rules of that program, employees can earn time off on the day after Thanksgiving and Christmas Eve based on the results. We conducted an update to the last year’s survey and not surprisingly 91.2% of those surveyed were satisfied with the work performance of city employees. As a reward for the favorable responses, all employees have earned a bonus day off with pay on  Friday, November 27th (the day after Thanksgiving) and a half day off Thursday, December 24th (Christmas Eve).

However, because we truly believe our workforce is extraordinary, the City Council and I have decided to award the full day (as opposed to just the half earned with the bonus program) on Thursday December 24th plus an additional floater day to be used December 28th - December 31st , 2015.  We have also decided to provide a half day off on the Wednesday before Thanksgiving Day. So in total, employees will have off the half day of Wednesday, November 25th, the full days of Friday, November 27th, and Thursday, December 24th and an additional floater day to thank you for your continued dedication and strong performance day in and day out.

All eligible employees who may be required to work on December 28th-December 31st and are unable to use the floater day in 2015 due to operational requirements will receive the equivalent time off to be taken prior to December 31, 2016.

The time off bonus and extra administrative leave on the 24th will result in the City being “closed” for routine business on these days.  Your department head or supervisor will be in touch with you if your department’s operations require staff to be rescheduled at these times.  The equivalent time off will be scheduled in accordance with departmental guidelines.

Congratulations on a job well done! I hope everyone is able to enjoy their extra time-off. The extra time-off is but a small token of the Council’s and my personal appreciation for all you do to make our community better each and every day! Thank you again,

Mary
