City Manager's Message 02/25/15: Thursday Closure for Non-Essential Personnel

Posted on February 27, 2015 at 1:59 PM by Mary Bunting

As you know, the snowfall predicted for earlier this evening has not yet begun to fall heavily (or at all in many places). We have consulted again with the National Weather Service which indicates that the precipitation is in the upper level of the atmosphere and is not yet making its way through the dry mid level atmosphere. They are predicting we will see a mix of snow and rain beginning any time followed by heavy snow starting at 2-3 am and coming using until noon. They still predict 6-8 inches. The system is clearly seen on the radar so it appears to be more a matter of when not if.

In light of this, we have decided to close all non-emergency essential operations tomorrow (Thursday). I was hoping to see evidence of snow before doing so, but the fact remains that heavy snow continuing until noon will make opening impractical and unadvisable when we put safety of our employees and citizens first as we always strive to do. We will make decisions about Friday late Thursday evening and update employees through email, news media, our web site and 311.

Mary
