Pumpkin Carving Contest Winners Teaser.jpg

I am very pleased to announce the winners of our 2nd annual pumpkin carving, and now decorating also, contest. As a judge, I have to tell you that we have amazingly talented employees. I hope you get a chance to check out the pumpkins that are downstairs in the City Hall lobby sometime today. All of the pumpkins were very cool. The judges agreed that making the top choices were very difficult.

First, I want to thank every one of the employees who participated: Alison Alexander, Shelley Armstrong, Amber Callahan, Tiffany Carr, Jonathan Cole, Crystal Craig, Maria Dillon, Adele Gardner,  James Gillie, Richmond Jackson, Annette Oakley, Frances Ostroth, Deborah Patton, Leslie Pehouce, Philip Prince, Bruce Roberts, Michael Sporer, Brianna Venner, Charles Waddell and Maya Young. The Credit Union also submitted a pumpkin as well. ALL of you had amazing work. I hope you had fun participating and will do so again next year as we continue to grow this activity.

This year we had two categories - pumpkin carving and pumpkin decorating. The winners are as follows:

Carved

  1. Richman Jackson, Community Development Department
  2. Frances Ostroth, Fire and Rescue
  3. Charles Waddell, Convention and Visitor Bureau

                Honorable Mention: Credit Union

Decorated

1. Tie:Crystal Craig, Public Works & Shelley Armstrong, City Manager’s Office

3. Leslie Pehouce, Human Resources

Honorable Mention: Maya Young, Community Development Department

The judges were so amazed with one entry that they decided to award a Best Overall Designation. Congratulations to Richman Jackson who submitted a pumpkin that looked like the Alien from the Aliens movies. The judges all agreed was amazingly scary!

Winners can pick up their prizes in the City Manager's Office.

Marketing, Inc. has created an on-line slideshow of all of the entries. You can access the slide show via the following link: http://hampton.gov/gallery.aspx?AID=48  When you have a moment, check out the link and vote for your favorite "People"s Choice" winner. Thanks again to everyone who helped organize this year's contest, the Employee Council for being a co-sponsor and a special thanks to my fellow judges: Vice Mayor Linda Curtis, Councilwoman Snead, Liz Linthicum and Phil Russell.

Finally, I want to acknowledge the many employees who decided to dress up today to show their fall spirit. We are still compiling pictures, so if you haven't already, send if pictures of those in you unit that dressed up to Marketing, Inc and/or me. We will send out a photo album link later.

Thanks again, and have a wonderful weekend!

Mary
