The Great American Cleanup in Hampton occurs March 1 through May 31 annually, and is a Keep America Beautiful, Inc. program. The purpose of the program is to rally and focus volunteer activity into one huge community improvement effort!

Volunteers participate in a number of projects and activities, which may include

  • Large-event litter cleanups
  • Multiple Adopt-A-Spot cleanups
  • One-time, individual or small-group cleanups
  • Waterway or coastal cleanups
  • Tree, shrub, or flower-planting activities
  • Beautification projects that include weeding, mulching, pruning, painting, washing, building, and signage development at schools, parks, roadsides, and other public places
  • Adult educational efforts, including tours, displays, presentations, and public service announcements, plus information sharing through social media
  • Youth education both in the classroom, outside the classroom in field trips and outdoor classrooms, and in extracurricular activities
