Tax Extension Related to COVID-19

covid tax extension enewsHampton City Council has approved an extension of the tax due date of Personal Property, Real Estate and Business Personal Property taxes from June 5, 2020, to Aug. 1, 2020, for those who have a demonstrated financial loss or strain directly attributable to COVID-19 and not covered by stimulus programs. To receive the extension, you must have submitted an application by Friday, May 15, 2020, (delivered or postmarked), and the Treasurer’s Office must approve your application. In addition, to help property owners make payments on time, the city is waiving credit card and online transaction fees.

Did You Qualify for a Tax Extension Due To COVID-19?

To determine if you qualified for a tax extension, the answer to the following questions must have been yes. 

  • Do you or your business have personal property, real estate or business personal property taxes that are due to the City of Hampton June 5, 2020? 
  • Do you need an extension to pay your taxes without penalty or interest from June 5, 2020, until Aug. 1, 2020? 
  • Do you have a demonstrated financial loss or strain (reduction in wages or income) directly attributable to the COVID-19 disaster and not covered by stimulus programs? 

If the answer to all the previous questions is yes, you qualified to complete an application by May 15, 2020, for an extension to pay your taxes without penalty on or before Aug. 1, 2020.
