Buckroe Beach and the James Wilson Fishing pier offer 588 nearby free parking spaces, which generally are sufficient for weekday crowds. Parking is not allowed on the grass lots, because it’s an environmental hazard. Oil and other vehicle fluids can leak into the ground, and cars destroy the grass, creating muddy ruts that breed mosquitoes and cause runoff.
On weekends and holidays in the summer, the city offers free shuttle service. Overflow beach parking and the shuttle stop pickup for Buckroe Beach and Park are at Jones Magnet Middle School, 1819 Nickerson Blvd. The paved parking lot there will hold more cars and not get muddy after rains.
Schedule: Memorial Day weekend to Labor Day weekend
Saturdays, 11 a.m.-7 p.m.
Sundays, 11 a.m.-9 p.m.
July Fourth, 11 a.m.-7 p.m.
Parking for shuttle to beach: Jones Magnet Middle School, 1819 Nickerson Blvd.
Beach drop-off and pickup: End of Buckroe Avenue at the beach
Times: Shuttle loops about every 25 minutes.
Signs will provide clear direction to the overflow parking area and identify shuttle stops. Groups or those with bulky chairs and coolers might prefer to drop gear and guests at the beach while the driver parks the car at the middle school and takes the shuttle back. (Remember, alcoholic beverages are not permitted at city parks, and dogs are not allowed in the park during the main summer season.)
