PREA (Prison Rape Elimination Act)

The federal Prison Rape Elimination Act was enacted in 2003 to prevent sexual assault in prisons. The act was to provide for the analysis of the incidence and effects of prison rape in institutions and to provide information, resources, recommendations and funding to protect individuals from prison rape. The Hampton Sheriff's Office has zero tolerance for any incidents of rape, sexual assault or sexual misconduct and complies with all applicable components of the Prison Rape Elimination Act.
