12th Annual MLK, Jr. Day of Service

The City of Hampton's Foster Grandparent Program sponsored its 12th Annual MLK Day of Service at the YH Thomas Community Center in Hampton, VA on January 14, 2016. The event included the School Supply Replenishing and the Gift of Warmth drive in which hats and gloves were collected to benefit 200 economically-challenged children enrolled in Head Start Centers.

Approximately 250 people attended the event, including Foster Grandparent Program volunteers and elected officials from Hampton City Council (George Wallace…Mayor, Linda Curtis…Vice Mayor, Donnie Tuck, Chris Snead, Teresa Schmidt), former Delegate Dr. Mary Christian and Hampton City Schools Superintendent, Dr. Jeffery Smith. Community supporters included: Office of Human Affairs, YH Community Center, Old Northampton Community Organization, City of Hampton Neighborhood Office, JenCare Medical Center, Riverside PACE, Hampton TRIAD and Multi-Print.
