Library Special Collections

The Special Collections Department (757-727-1314) is located at the rear of the second floor of the Main Library, in the Virginiana Room, and is made up of three research collections and the Inter-Library Loan service. The staff will also accept limited Research Requests.

Hours

Monday and Thursday: 1 - 7 p.m.

Tuesday and Wednesday: 9 a.m. - 5 p.m.

Friday: 9 a.m. - 1 p.m.

Saturday and Sunday: 1 p.m. - 5 p.m.

*Appointments are recommended for using the Genealogy Research computers. Please call 757-727-1314 for an appointment.

Virginiana & Genealogy

The Virginiana Collection has been expanded from the original collection of the old Charles Taylor Memorial Library.

Grant Materials

The Grant Materials Department houses the Foundation Center’s online resources and materials useful to grant-seekers.

Candid, a combination of Foundation Center and Guidestar resources, has a collection of eBooks and eAudiobooks in topics of interest to the nonprofit community. Create a free account and access the collection on your computer or using the OverDrive or Libby app on your mobile device.

Local Government

We maintain a hard copy collection of many current City of Hampton documents.
