Storm Drain Cleaning Month

Spring is just around the corner and Public Works is starting to clean up early. Throughout March Stormwater crews will be cleaning curb drop inlets – those familiar drains we see on city curbs that are used to catch and direct rain and groundwater.

The severe weather this winter has allowed a lot of sediment to flow down city streets and into the drainage system. Stormwater wants to make sure all of the drains are free of sediment and debris – and anything else that could impede the flow of water - before April showers arrive and possibly cause a bigger problem. Cleaning the inlets will also help with  mosquitoes later in the year by limiting possible breeding spots.

Cleaning schedule
Stormwater will work in a different area of the city each week (see map for area details)
