Hampton's recreation opportunities include:
- Sandy Bottom Nature Park, a 456 acre environmental education and wildlife management facility with a nature center, camping and canoe and paddleboat rental.
- Bluebird Gap Farm, a farm-style zoo
- Gosnold's Hope Park, with picnic facilities, campsites, a public boat ramp, a fitness trail, athletic fields, and a BMX track.

- Many neighborhoods have parks and school playgrounds are open to the public when school is not in session.
- Buckroe Beach offers a bayfront beach, playground, shelters and kayak rentals. Grandview Beach and Fort Monroe's public beaches are also open in season.
- Four community centers and neighborhood centers offer a variety of programs, including fitness classes, workout rooms and public meeting areas and therapeutic programs for people with special needs
