Take the budget poll and tell us how you think spending should be focused in FY 2018

budget poll

March 7, 2017 -  Hampton City Manager Mary Bunting wants to hear from residents as she and her team continue to develop budgets - both capital and operating - that will carry the city through the next fiscal year and beyond.

The final in-person forum was held Monday, March 6, but residents can now  take a budget poll online as part of the city's "I Value" program. I Value seeks to link funding priorities with services and projects of most value to Hampton's taxpayers. Among the new requests for the 2017-2018 budget year are proposed increases for police staffing and technology.

This will be the eighth year of the city's "I Value" effort. The concept, which has won awards nationally, is to include taxpayer priorities during the formulation of the spending plans, rather than in public hearings as reaction to a proposal.

Take the poll by going to the online survey that will be available through March 20. The city manager has to present a recommended budget to City Council by April 15.

You can learn more about the city budget by going to www.hampton.gov/budget. You can also view all the presentations from the three in-person meetings, as well as the questions and answers, at www.hampton.gov/ivalue.
