police programs

Dec. 28, 2016 - Gov. Terry McAuliffe recently announced that Hampton has been awarded a $20,000 "Policing in the 21st Century" grant to support training and equipment that enhances the city's policing efforts. Virginia's Criminal Justice Services Board approved giving 36 communities, including Hampton, Newport News, James City County and Portsmouth, more than $756,000. The money comes to Virginia from the federal government's Edward Byrne Justice Assistance Grant Program. The grants will pay for a variety of efforts, including one-on-one mentoring for young people and their families, at-risk youth programs, and youth outreach programs.
