Dec. 12, 2016 - The winners of the "Blissful Lights" competition were announced Saturday during the downtown holiday parade. Designed to bring neighborhood organizations together and lift spirits during the holiday season, the contest invited organizations to compete for creating the best light display at selected locations.

The lights remain on display at the Northampton Community Center, West Hampton Community Center, Little England Cultural Center, Fort Monroe Community Center, Phoebus Christmas Tree on Mellen Street, Buckroe Beach Garden in front of the Stage Light House and the Y.H. Thomas Community Center.

First prize, with the theme of "Frost Fishing Night," went to the Buckroe Improvement League. They won five scholarships that will go to Hampton city school students to attend Operation Winter Break. Second prize, themed "Christmas Gumball Tree," went to Y.H. Thomas Community Center. Five city school students will get to attend swim classes at a city community center. And third prize, themed "Garden of Causes," went to Northampton Community Center. Five city school students will receive an annual membership to the Parks and Recreation community centers.
